The Fundación Participates in the "Living in Spain" Program Sponsored by the Carolina Foundation

February 2012   La Fundación del Jamón Serrano Español took part in a conference held at the Carolina Foundation Madrid Student Residence on "The Mediterranean Diet: Common Heritage of Mankind", part of the Foundation's "Living in Spain" program.

During the conference, which included the participation of one hundred Carolina Foundation scholarship holders from 16 South American countries who are studying in Madrid, José Ramón Godoy, general secretary of the Fundación Jamón Serrano, described the principles of the Jamón Serrano production process, including existing quality control procedures and the nutritional benefits of including Jamón Serrano in our diet.

Following the informative portion of the conference, led by Mercedes Alcover, general secretary of the Carolina Foundation, the students were able to ask questions of the guest participants, after which they took part in a Jamón Serrano, olive oil and wine tasting session.

This activity falls within the "Living in Spain" program, the objective of which is to acquaint the participants of the Foundation's study program with the social, political and cultural reality of Spain through various cultural and social activities organized in collaboration with other institutions.

 

About the FUNDACIÓN del JAMÓN SERRANO ESPAÑOL

La Fundación del Jamón Serrano was created in 2000 and comprises close to one hundred ham manufacturing industries in 13 regions. Its objective is to promote, publicize and protect the "Jamón Serrano" designation, backed at Community level by the Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) label.

Hams bearing the FUNDACIÓN label are available exclusively in the Reserva category, for hams which have been cured for a minimum of 12 months, and Gran Reserva, for hams which have been cured for more than 15 months. Our sliced, packaged ham has been cured for 10 months, situating FUNDACIÓN hams well above the levels required by Community regulations for TSG.
