Serrano Ham: An Excellent Source of Iron

 

The nutrients provided by the consumption of Serrano ham are essential for people of all ages, although it is important to note the important role of iron during the early stages of life (children and young women).

The amino acids that form the proteins found in Serrano ham help the body to better absorb the iron found in vegetables, grains and pulses, increasing the nutritional value of our diet. It we consume iron with vitamin C, the iron is more readily absorbed by our body. For example, in a sandwich made with whole wheat bread, tomato and Serrano ham, the protein from the Serrano ham and the vitamin C from the tomato will help the body to better absorb the iron from the whole grains.

Recommended intake of iron and zinc by age and sex, with the daily amount (%) provided by 100 g of Serrano ham.
